Our Mission
Our Mission is to improve the mental and physical health and overall wellbeing of Nova Scotians through the creation of supportive environments, healthy public policy and programs that respect the diversity and needs of our population.
Our Mandate
- To facilitate communication and information sharing among those working to address issues in public health and health promotion at the local, provincial and national levels.
- To improve the effectiveness of member efforts in promoting the health and well-being of Nova Scotians by facilitating networking and the identification of collaborative action.
- To work collaboratively with government, health professionals and community partners to advance issues of importance and relevance to the promotion of health and well-being in Nova Scotia, including the need for sustained implementation and adequate funding of evidence-based comprehensive strategies.
Our values
- We apply a population health approach, recognizing that many social determinants of health, like income, social status, education, and access to social supports can hinder or enhance our health and well-being;
- We value the unique strengths, experience, and expertise of all organizations and individuals that participate in the Alliance;
- We build on what is working and identify what isn’t to drive change;
- We make decisions and take actions based on the best available evidence;
- We prioritize active engagement and collaboration with communities across Nova Scotia and commitment to supporting diversity and fostering inclusivity within the organization and in our communities.
Our collective work seeks to:
- Influence policy
- Contribute to research
- Foster networking and sharing of best and promising practices
